5 Ways To Kickstart 2020 With Momentum In Your Business

How often do you find that January seems to disappear pretty quickly once you get back from the holidays, finally get your team back into work mode and you manage to get your head around a regular routine of business again? Motivation can often need a bit of a wind up in the first few weeks!

But the new year is always a brilliant time to re-assess your business structure and strategy, to set new goals and to make any significant shifts that need to happen to change the direction of where you are heading.

It’s funny that we find new energy with a new year. It is possibly the result of having some time off over the Christmas period allowing a fresh perspective to settle in after the New Years’ celebratory drinks are out of the way!

Please note here that it is so important to take time out from your business for this very reason. By now you should have all your holidays for the year locked in so that you ensure regular time out for your own health and for the health of your business.

So, with the new year already underway here are some ways you can really kick the year off with plenty of momentum, infuse enthusiasm into your teams and set the course for the year ahead:

1.     Lock into your calendar today regular blocks of time to work ON your business.

Owners need to make this a priority if any kind of forward progression is going to occur. I cannot stress enough the importance of planning or looking at your business from an objective point of view on a regular basis. Weekly is ideal and in this time take yourself away from the office to review your master plan, check your progress, dream up new concepts for future growth and lock in new goals.

2.     Delegate tasks immediately that you find monotonous

Recognise the work you have been doing that is simple to develop into a repeatable process that can then be handed over to one of your current staff members or look at ways of on-boarding a new staff member to manage the tasks. As a business owner you should be focused on doing the work you are good at, passionate about and has the highest return on your time invested. Simple things like making appointments or checking emails can easily be outsourced.

3.     Make some new high-level connections with like-minded professionals

Nothing is more motivating than a good catch up with another passionate business professional who is firing up for the new year. Recognise some within your sphere of influence and work on the relationship or look at finding ways to connect with some new people either within your industry, or in complimentary industries. Not only will these connections provide insight and inspiration for new ideas, they are also fantastic opportunities for developing new mutually beneficial partnerships for future growth.

4. Review your systems and processes

Take some time with an advisor or your board, or a trusted friend if you have no other support to go over your strategic plan, assess your previous goals and make sure you are still aligned with the overall big picture. Then with your team review your systems, processes and KPI’s to renew the vision and reignite the focus for the year.

5.     Join our newly launched Business Academy

If you are really serious about staying accountable to growth and really building out a strong and sustainable business in 2020, then I invite you to learn more about The Business Academy. After launching the pilot program in 2019, we are now taking registrations for the program. Here is a review from one of our members to give you an ideal of how effective this program is for small business owners looking to scale:

“It’s unlike anything else. I highly recommend it to all small business owners who are trying to scale. I’ve been part of a number of other programs, but I really like the pace of The Business Academy. At first, I thought it was a bit slow, but now I can see that I am actually getting the time to think through each new lesson quite deeply and execute on all that I am learning. I often lose motivation in my business as well and having the accountability and regular calls helps me stay focussed and on track. It’s great. I highly recommend it to all small business owners who are trying to scale.” – Rakesh
